School Zone light for Mater Academy Narcoossee

The Issue

We are trying to gather enough signatures to push the city of Orlando to place school zone lights leading to Mater Academy Narcoossee. This is a K-11 school, with an entrance that is on a very busy street "Narcoossee Rd". Currently, the school has taken the initiative to hire an off duty OPD officer to assist in blocking the third lane for parents turning right into the Academy Dr and for parents exiting as well.

However, it is very difficult for parents to turn left into Academy Dr given how heavy traffic is in the mornings and the speeds in which the drivers are going. Our second option is to make U-TURNS on the following three turn lanes which is equally dangerous. The off-duty officer will sometimes assist in blocking traffic with his vehicle, this is because recently there was an incident in which the officer there was almost hit by a driver going too fast. This alone should be a clear sign that school zone signage is needed. After this incident, a second officer was contracted to monitor traffic speeds on random days, and several tickets have been issued on different occasions.

Currently what we are told is that because we don't have enough registered walkers, we will not be getting the school zone light. This does not seem right, all schools should have school zone lights and signage to protect the parents/kids in the vehicles trying to get to school, to protect the few walkers we have, and even the high schoolers that are driving themselves to school.

Helps us achieve a huge following for this cause, the school will soon have an additional 3 more buildings, increasing the student count to 2500. The area will soon have other developments breaking ground in that area which will increase traffic flow EVEN MORE. We believe if we show the City how important this is and how many parents will fight to get this through, we can make it happen!
