School Fines for taking children on holiday

School Fines for taking children on holiday
Why this petition matters

Over the last 2 years children have missed so much school due to the pandemic. My son has missed months and has never actually contracted covid 19 So many of these days off where not needed. Parents have home schooled their children without any choice in the matter, often sacrificing work commitments. In this time children also missed out on family holidays because of travel restrictions and now want to catch up going away which is vitally important for children’s mental and emotional well-being. When on holiday children can rest, play, explore, learn new skills such as swimming and they can make new friends outside of school. As a family we have been fined for taking our son to centre parcs for 5 days, I felt this was very unfair and unjustified considering the fact that they have missed so much school and I have never asked anything in return. I believe that there should be a term time holiday allowance for children just like there was when I was a child. This is just a way for the council to make money and I don’t think the pandemic has been taken into consideration when issuing the fines.
