The first time I heard a Land Acknowledgement, it surprised me - a smiling surprise. At any gathering, these words quietly remind us where we stand.

As someone who is not native, I think it important to acknowledge those who have gone before. This is simple, but so important!

The erasure of Indigenous peoples both past and present seems to be constant. The least (very least) we owe is to honor the lands that we’ve stolen and that we prosper from daily. Acknowledging the ceded in and unceded land on which we all stand could not be more important.

Because it’s important to recognize the people who first lived and cared for this land that was stolen from them.
