CALL TO ACTION: Hazel I. Jackson Middle School Renaming

Thank you for your participation in the petition to rename Southeast Middle School (formerly Hand Middle School) to Hazel I. Jackson Middle School.  Our objective has become a reality! Hazel I. Jackson is a finalist in the nominees for the desired name change for the former Hand Jr. High.

We need you to do one last thing and please take action now by participating in the School District of Lancaster’s (SDoL) renaming THOUGHT EXCHANGE.

As the first African-American female educator, during the 1960’s at Hand Jr. High, Hazel I. Jackson is part of School District of Lancaster history! Mrs. Jackson paved the way for other educators of color and was instrumental in laying the foundation for racial equality in the district.

Hazel I. Jackson’s story speaks to the notion that local historical figures matter, Black female representation matters and the ability to change the world through education matters. Please continue your support by taking action now and going to the district’s renaming THOUGHT EXCHANGE.

If you have already expressed your support on the THOUGHT EXCHANGE, we thank you, and ask that you please share the information to other friends and family. They may view the presentation offered to the School Board and take a look at Mrs. Jackson’s accomplishments and contributions to the community. Everyone’s participation is genuinely appreciated in SDoL’s quest to rename schools with public figures that encourage and motivate the scholars at Southeast Middle School.

THE DEADLINE FOR PARTICIPATING IS TUESDAY, APRIL 6th and is fast approaching!

Respectfully,

The Hazel I. Jackson Renaming Committee
