Our local school board recently met and to resolve deficit issues in SD53 they are considering two options: 1) Close Osoyoos Secondary School and bus the students to South Okanagan Secondary School in Oliver. 2) Close Osoyoos Elementary School, renovate Osoyoos Secondary School and have students from K-9 moved there.

Those who live, have ever lived or have spent time in Osoyoos know what a great place it is! In the past several years the population has grown, young families are moving to our beautiful town. If there isn’t adequate schooling; these young families would not be able to stay in the area resulting in more business closures and loss of long-term employees which would affect the long term economy of this town.

Please sign the Petition to keep our schools as is; Osoyoos Elementary School has seen enrollment numbers grow in recent years and with all the local Day Care’s full and with wait lists, enrollment is set to rise at both the Elementary School and Osoyoos Secondary School. The most important concern is the impact this would have for our kids! Busing the students to Oliver would affect productivity, ability to hold after school jobs, homework time and after school activities.

There are many many other issues and concerns, but what is the most important is that as a community, whether past or present, want to keep our families here, our kids educated here and to continue to grow what we have all worked so hard for right here in Osoyoos.
