Reshi D. started this petition to School Board and

Our schools claim that they are diverse. That they support our beliefs and ideas. That they accept everyone and have open arms to everyone. Our schools claimed that they were a safe place, but that has been proven wrong. What has also been proven wrong was accepting our religious beliefs. Christians get all of their holidays recognized, which is a very good thing and should continue to happen. However, other religions, neither superior or inferior, do not get many of their holidays recognized in our American schools. How diverse are we to only be giving out breaks on Christian holidays? It is unfair that a student is stressed out because he has a test the next day, but he also has use most of his time to be with his family and friends on a religious holiday. It is unfair that that same student won't get a good grade on their test because they had to choose to focus on their religion over their education. It is unfair that another student might have had to choose their test over their religion because they needed to focus on their grades. It is unfair that students have to catch up on lots of work that could be prevented if we acknowledged our differences. It is unfair that we have to be limited to choosing things that shouldn't have to be chosen. Instead of keeping a bunch of random holidays for no reason, we can acknowledge our diversity and use those holidays for our religions.

If the tables were turned and Christians didn't get holidays, then it would so unfair to have to open presents on Christmas morning while brushing your teeth to get ready for school. It is horrible how our schools aren't recognizing our true diversity. Diversity is more than having many people of different races and ethnicities in a school. It is about actually accepting students and giving them the time they need to thrive and be themselves. It is about actually recognizing that every individual is different and that we all come from different backgrounds.

By signing this petition we can change our schools ideas. If our petition is successful, we can show our schools that these changes matter to many people around the nation. We can show our schools that what is happening now is wrong. We can show these schools that we need to be acknowledged and respected.
