Paige Adams started this petition to School Board and

Girls and guys in schools are forced to wear a dress code. It’s especially discriminating on girls though. Everyone is forced to wear khakis and certain shirts. And not only that but certain jackets and shoes aren’t allowed. There’s also a part where we’re not allowed to have facial piercings which stops students from being able fully express them selves as teachers and principals suggest. Not only should dress code change but it should be took away. We’re middle schoolers and even high schoolers but yet a girl showing her shoulders is “distracting” a tiny hole in a pair of pants is “distracting” wearing a hoodie even without the hood on your head is “distracting”. Not only is it disgusting that girls shoulders on now sexualized but it’s disrespectful to anyone to think the way they dress that if they show the tiniest bit of skin they will be sexualized only because of their shoulders showing. Not only this but teachers are always on students about dress codes but yet they show up in the exact opposite of the dress code. Wearing anything and everything they want. And they are teachers, principal’s etc. but they want to force it on students but yet can’t do it themselves. If they are worried about a students dressing style or what a student chooses to wear to school everyday they should reconsider how they dress and the examples they are setting as well. Students mostly girls have to worry about getting in trouble if one part of their shoulder is showing all because they are being sexualized everyday they are forced to be in dress code. This is all a reason why the schools dress codes should be revoked.
