Ban The Bottle

We are the Grades of Green team at MBMS. We learned that 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into our ocean each year and over 1 million marine animals are killed by plastic each year.

We are a beach city and we love the ocean. The huge amount of plastic in our ocean is a really large problem that we would love to help change. We know we cannot get rid of plastic all together, but we want to try to change things around of community to help.

At our school more than 500 plastic bottle are sold every week. A plastic bottle can take up to 1,000 years to decompose.

We also know the chemicals from plastic leach into the liquids inside which is unhealthy for us and can cause disease and certain cancers. We would like for the district to take action to eliminate plastic bottles from our campuses.

With your help we can ban plastic bottles in our district by encouraging everyone to bring a reusable water bottle and by only selling drinks in aluminum containers.

We are also asking the district to install more hydration stations on the middle school campus and place them where it is easier for students to access them. This would help give kids the option to bring their reusable bottles and refill them rather than buying water and other drinks.

Please help us eliminate single use plastics from MBUSD by singing our petition and pledging to not use single use plastic water bottles to change our today to better our tomorrow.
