On Valentine’s Day this year the country watched as a mass shooting happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, a city frequently named one of the safest in the country and the safest in Florida. I watched the news and received one of the worst phone calls of my life and found out my best friend had been shot.
On March 14th, Political Action Club is planning a student-led Walkout at 10:00 A.M. We urge the school administration to grant an Activity Period Schedule on March 14th in order to allow students to protest while not disturbing classes. It is imperative that change happens now. Our generation has seen far too much death happening in schools, an environment made for learning, not dodging bullets. Regardless of the political party your beliefs align with or even what you believe about the 2nd Amendment, what we can all agree on is that 17 people died at a school, a place that’s supposed to be safe. We need to look past political parties and realize that we need change, because without change this will keep happening. Sign this petition if you believe that no kids should never have to face the threat of gun violence. Sign this if you believe in safety and security for the youth, the future of this country. Sign this petition if you want to be an instrument of change and take part in this Walkout in order to advocate for change and safety in American schools and the regulation of guns to ensure that the events of this past Valentine’s Day are never repeated ever again.
