Following a majority vote of no confidence in Scarborough Borough Council on 14th February 2017. We the undersigned electors of the current Filey Constituency call upon (Northallerton) re Scarborough Borough Council to make the necessary provisions for establishing Filey Town Council for the area designated by the existing Filey Constituency boundaries .

Background information

Local government legislation contains an entitlement for residents to establish their own Town Council to represent their concerns and promote the interests of their local community.

Prior to its amalgamation with Scarborough Council in 1974. Filey had a successful history of independent self-governance when Filey Urban District Council was one of the 'richest' councils in the country.

A petition of 10% or more of the electors for the proposed area, served on the 'main authority' (Scarborough Borough Council) obliges that authority to trigger the process that enables the Council to be re-established covering Filey and its boundary area .
