On June 27th of 2022 City of Austins Park Board voted "NO" to changing the name to "Tony Castillo Pan American Neighborhood Park". The landowners of District 3, community members, organizations, Leaders in East Austin spoke up loud and clear in this community engagement process, providing letters, given testimony and surveyed our District 3 of 51% in opposition of adding the name of "Tony Castillo " to Pan American Neighborhood Park". The Pan American Advisory Board voted "No" to the proposed name change. The City of Austin Parks Board put forward a resolution to recognize Mr. Tony Castillo for his dedication with a plaque Honoring his commitment to his community! On July 28, 2022, this item will be set on the Austin City Council's meeting agenda for the final decision, we ask for you to please sign this petition to preserve the historical name of Pan American Neighborhood Park that is considered a District Park. We have lost so much take a look around us; we must preserve the Historical landmarks that Identify who we are, and we are still here our Mexican culture will never be erased in East Austin's History.
