The Outer Banks Tourism Board and local towns are attempting to ram a new multi-million dollar event center through, against the wishes of majority of residents.  A project that they admit will lose over hundreds of thousands of dollars for the first several years.  They claim it will bring in 191 new jobs, but in reality who's going to fill those positions? They're going to be competing with all of the local businesses for the same non-existent pool of employees.  We have a severe affordable housing issue that continues to worsen with they're failure to address it while simultaneously continuing an unsustainable, unnecessary growth.  The proposed site for the new event center is the only green space remaining.  It is under utilized currently due to poor management, an unsavory contract that nickel and dimes anyone attempting to rent the space with mandatory add-on services.  Other beach towns ha r fallen victim to the same greed and will never be the same again.  Let's learn from the mistakes of our neighbors, and instead of paving over paradise find a way to exemplify and celebrate the charm and natural beauty of our sleepy sandbar.
