Please sign if you do not want an ordinance created in Brackenridge that would prohibit kids from playing in public rights of way.

Anyone putting up basketball hoops, soccer or hockey goals on Brackenridge streets could find it to be a costly move. If approved, violators would face a written warning for the first offense and a fine of up to $1,000 for every incident after.

Brackenridge Boro is looking to establish an ordinance that would prohibit sports equipment from encroaching on public rights of way in the boro. “The ordinance, as written, would prohibit the sports equipment across the board” says the Brackenridge solicitor.

If passed, the ordinance might be the first of its kind in the area. In several communities across the Alle-Kiski Valley, officials said they were not aware of ordinances to prohibit kids from playing in public rights of way.

In addition to signing, please plan to attend:

Who: Brackenridge Council
What: Vote on proposed ordinance to prohibit sports equipment on public rights of way
When: 6 p.m. Sept. 1
Where: 1000 Brackenridge Ave.

Or call:

Boro Phone: 724 224-0800

Let council know that despite isolated incident complainers, the majority of residents are against such an ordinance and want children to have an opportunity to grow up outside enjoying physical exercise and playing with friends.
