The Town of Brookhaven, in Long Island, NY, as of April 1st, 2022, is going to implement airport usage fees for based and non-based aircraft. We as pilots believe this a violation of the FAA Grant Assurances program. The decision to implement fees was made without the involvement of pilots, aircraft owners, Fixed Based Operators, and the community at Brookhaven Calabro Airport. These fees will directly impact businesses at the airport and pilots negatively without any improvements to the airfield. Brookhaven Calabro Airport is a beautiful airport in a nice community with a restaurant/picnic area that families of pilots and non-pilots enjoy.
