Please join PANIL (Piedmont Avenue Neighborhood Improvement League), RCPC (Rockridge Community Planning Council), and UBA (Upper Broadway Advocates) to stop this proposal in its tracks.

Home Depot wants to open a huge store (130,000 square feet of retail, a 4-story parking structure, and 449 parking spaces) at the corner of Broadway and Pleasant Valley, turning this prime corner and entrance to Rockridge into an eyesore suburban nightmare. Please help us by signing this petition to let the property owner and the Oakland Planning Commission know that the neighborhood OBJECTS TO THIS USE. 

PANIL, RCPC and UBA already surveyed their constituencies who overwhelmingly objected to a big box retailer on this site. 

Reasons to oppose this use:

1.  This is an inappropriate use of a site that would be perfect for housing and small retail (not Big Box). It’s within walking distance of BART and has bus stops for getting to downtown Oakland quickly and taking the Transbay bus into SF. Say NO to Home Depot and YES to housing.

2.  The site needs housing. Why waste time on new zoning and an additional EIR when we desperately need housing right now? Why not build a pedestrian enticing destination that all neighbors can enjoy daily and that increases foot traffic and helps local shops on College Avenue?

3.  There’s already a Home Depot store conveniently located only 2.4 miles away. 

4.  North Oakland already has three great hardware stores close by – Cole Hardware on College, Ellis Ace on MLK and Grand Lake Hardware on Grand. Other local nursery and plant retailers such as Broadway Terrace Nursery would be negatively impacted by this proposed use. Let’s protect our local businesses and the local residents they employ.
