Why this petition matters

Started by Krystal Patterson

When a person signs documentation creating an agreement to pay back a debt, that debt is theirs, and no one else’s. It is not the responsibility of the taxpayers to take on the debt of an individual who made a personal decision to take out a loan, no matter what the reason.

If the government decides to to pay off school debt utilizing taxpayer money, they are creating more debt for taxpayers and the United States, and teaching less responsibility to others

Student loan forgiveness is an abuse of the loan system. People must be held responsible for their personal economic choices.

Loan forgiveness is a small bandage to the bigger financial issue.
The US already has several student loan forgiveness programs and yet we’re still in a student loan debt crisis.

Making it easier to discharge loans would give people an incentive to take out loans with no intention of paying them back, or to borrow more than they need.

There is no win in this situation. If we do not hold people responsible for their decisions, we will never create a sustainable financial future for anyone.

The petition to forgive student loans is redundant. Make the government list every student loan forgiveness program already in play, and the success or failure of those programs. If you do that, you will see that another forgiveness program is useless.
