Say no to a return to austerity: We need a general strike to restore our NHS

The Issue

I’m Matt, I’m an NHS nurse and I am working with my colleagues in the NHS to call for a general strike.

I’ve worked in the NHS for the past 12 years and over that time I’ve watched our services being cut away by successive governments.

We cannot stand by and watch as our country returns to austerity. Over the last 12 years we have lost so much - NHS beds, appointments, operations, tests, and staff all being cut to the bare minimum.

The end result is where we are today: too many people waiting for treatment, whilst NHS staff are leaving in their thousands because we’re exhausted, traumatised and can’t pay the bills. We cannot do this anymore.

Currently a mix of nurses, junior doctors and teachers are being balloted for strike action. That’s up to 2 million people - or around 1 in 16 working people in the UK - who could be about to strike.

Please sign this petition to support a general strike and to tell the Government: no austerity, no more cuts to public services.

We at 'NHS workers say No' are calling on the Trades Union Congress to coordinate a large-scale strike to show this government enough is enough.

We are asking all essential workers to unite. We must take action against this government’s plan. Our walkouts must be synchronised in order to have the greatest impact.

We are public sector workers. What we want is to restore the public services we have dedicated our lives to. What we want is to support the communities we care about. What we want is for our work to be valued by the people who are leading our country.

We must unite to restore the public services this country so desperately needs.
