Saving the trees, and 12 other trees getting chopped down 12/09/227th September.....
Why this petition matters

After seeing David Dawson's Facebook post on the Sewerby village Facebook group, regarding the trees in our village, one of them being on top of Riviera drive next to the methodist church.. we need to help this tree, a few other trees, that are getting chopped down on Wednesday 7th September 2022 before its to late.
The sycamore tree on Riviera Drive has been in the same spot since 1800 or even 1700 years ago, all before Tarmack, and footpaths, it has been through a lot of 'wallops ' by passing vehicles like cars and lorries etc. Many Bats and Wildlife like to sit on the branches at night or daylight.
Here is the copy and pasted post of David Dawson about this post, thank you -
Just 7 days now to say 'goodbye' and 'fond farewell' to one of our oldest trees in Sewerby. This huge iconic tree is a sycamore (platanus occidentalsis) is at the top of Riviera Drive. Mr.Rogers, council tree 'fellin' department, is coming to chop it down. I first learned of its demise when I read Mr.Bellotti's notice about closing 30 metres of Cliff Road for the activity on Wednesday 7th September from 9 to 3. I'm not sure if he's chopping down the one tree, some, or all of them. A sycamore tree can live for 400 years and even beyond. I reckon this one dates back to at least 1800 or even 1700. Over the years it has taken quite a few 'wallops' from passing traffic as it protrudes into the road. But it was there long before the road or pavement. As a sycamore tree ages its bark becomes cracked and develops small plates, but doesn't seem in too bad a condition. Perhaps its got a fungal disease. It's leaves don't seem all that healthy but that could be due to the drought. I remember, a few years ago, there was some concern about its 'health' but after conservationist intervention it received a last minute reprieve.
