Saving Grace III - Rescind Bill 23 to Save Our Rights, Wetlands, Wildlife and Legacy
Why this petition matters
Grace the ancient one-eyed turtle hibernates each year within 1 metre of where she rested before, in a small "pocket" wetland- a wetland that many mainstream politicians don't know is valuable.
Wetlands are nature's kidneys. They clean our water, regulate floods and droughts, and support 70% of wildlife in Eastern North America (on par with wetlands across the world).
Grace, all Ontario turtles, plus 70% of our wildlife are being placed in jeopardy because of Bill 23.
Bill 23 also takes away our rights and those of our Indigenous Treaty Partners, to know about, respond to, or appeal decisions in our communities, and for our futures. Bill 23 destroys our rights, wildlife, economies, and traditions.
These are the consequences if this law is passed:
- Takes away our rights and those of Indigenous Nations
- Will kill turtles and put other Nationally Endangered wildlife at further risk of extinction
- Wetlands will be filled and paved over- gone forever leaving us in vulnerable to threats
- Takes away money from our communities and raises our taxes
- Gives one man ultimate power to choose who benefits
- Leaves decisions to the inexperienced
- Paves over farms, weakening our food security
- And much more...
