Il Castello di Sammezzano è una testimonianza eccezionale di un gusto estetico che è oggetto della storia della critica d'arte.

Esso è infatti frutto della mente geniale del marchese Ferdinando Panciatichi Ximenes d'Aragona, che ne modificò la struttura preesistente adeguandolo alla corrente dell'Orientalismo che nell'Ottocento si diffuse in tutta Europa.

Il Castello è circondato da un Parco storico, patrimonio botanico di inestimabile valore, al quale appartengono anche alcune specie arboree indigene tra cui sequoie della California, che hanno trovato a Sammezzano un habitat ideale per la propria sopravvivenza.

Ogni anno venivano organizzate 3 o 4 visite a numero chiuso (circa 800 persone) e in meno di 1 minuto il server contava più di 11.000 richieste provenienti da tutta Italia (e non solo). Non occorre sottolineare la frustrazione di tutte le persone che ogni anno provano a visitare il castello invano. Non occorre sottolineare che sono tutti disposti a pagare un biglietto di entrata, favorendo la manutenzione e il turismo.

L'intera struttura, oggi, si trova in sostanziale condizione di abbandono e ne è stata fissata la vendita giudiziaria a breve (comprensiva di ben 13 fabbricati e l'intero parco).

***Questo potrebbe significare perdere la possibilità di vivere il Castello e il suo parco!!!!***

Vogliamo chiedere al Comune di Reggello, alla Regione Toscana e al Ministero dei Beni culturali e del turismo di intervenire con i poteri loro assegnati dal nostro ordinamento affinché siano adottate tutte le misure che garantiscano la destinazione museale del Castello di Sammezzano e l'apertura al pubblico del suo parco, in considerazione dell'elevato pregio storico artistico dell'immobile; provvedendo altresì a porre in essere tutte le azioni rivolte alla sua tutela, conservazione e valorizzazione come parte del nostro patrimonio culturale.

The Sammezzano Castle is an excellent witness of the Moorish aesthetic taste, which is greatly valued by art critics.

Marquis Ferdinand Panciatichi Ximenes d’Aragona was the genius mastermind behind the conceiving and the building of the castle, he used a pre-existing ruin to realize a new mansion perfectly aligned to the Orientalism flow, wihch was very popular in Europe during the 19th Century.

The Castle is surrounded by an historical park, a priceless bothanical heritage; among the numerous indigenous plant species living in the park, Califorina’s Sequoias found here a perfect habitat for their survival.

The Castle has been closed long time ago, just tree or four times a year it is opened for free visits, the maximum number of visitors allowed is around 800, but the requests, on the on-line servers, are always more than 11.000 (in the first minute!). Each year lots of people try to visit the castle in vain, it’s needless to say that these people would be open to buy a ticket, to help with the maintaining.

The whole structure, today, is left in a total state of abandon, soon it’s going to be sold at an auction (along the castle are going to be sold the park and other 13 buildings)

***THIS COULD MEAN TO LOSE THE POSSIBILITY OF VISITING THE CASTLE AND IT’S PARK***

Considering the high historical and artistic value of the mainson we would want to ask to the administrations of Reggello and Tuscany and to the Italian Ministry of Cultural and Environmental Heritage to use their authority to prevent the closing of the castle, and further turn the building and its park into a public museum to preserve it and highlight it as part of our cultural heritage.
