Why this petition matters

Started by Gary McVeigh-Kaye

Woodfield Community Primary School sits in the heart of the Bilton area of Harrogate.

In January 2020 Ofsted visited the school and rated it 'inadequate'. This led to the school having an Academy Order placed on it, stating that it must be taken over by a Multi-Academy Trust.

Because no MAT came for forward, the Governing Body of the school had no option but to seek the closure of Woodfield CP School. We say, everyone should work together to save the school.

This is a genuine community school, albeit a school that has suffered three traumatic incidents over the past 10 years. Woodfield should serve the community where it sits and every effort should be made to keep the school open and give parents the confidence to send their children to the school.

The school site is wonderful, with fantastic outside space, and also shares the site with a community library and family centre.

We call on the Secretary of State for Education, the Regional Schools Commissioner and the Local Authority to intervene, remove the Academy Order, stop the proposal for closure and put every effort into rebuilding the student numbers at this vital community school.

By signing this petition you are saying loud and clear that the community of Woodfield CP School deserve to keep their community school.
