SAVE WISCONSIN WATER! DEMAND RECISSION OF AB426, SB 326/AB421 & SB 368/AB463

PETITION DEMANDING RECISSION OF AB426, SB 326/AB 421 & SB 368/AB 463

We, the undersigned citizens of the State of Wisconsin, do affirm:

We possess an inherent right to clean water. Our right to use and enjoy clean water is protected by federal laws and regulations, and international human rights standards. We need clean water to drink and for bathing, to give to our children and animals, to irrigate our crops and gardens, to sustain aquatic life, and for recreation purposes.

We oppose all destructive industrial activity, including mining, within our watershed – the Bad River watershed. Mining uses massive amounts of clean water, and pollutes massive amounts of clean water. Within sensitive and water-rich areas like the Penokee Hills, mining pollution is impossible to contain and the pollution from such an operation would seriously threaten our quality of life for generations. A mining operation in the Penokee Hills would destroy many of the watershed’s unique and important plants, fish and animals.

Specifically, we oppose the Mining Bill (AB 426), the Navigable Waters Bill (SB 326; AB 421) and the Wetlands Bill (SB 368; AB 463). These bills fail to acknowledge the rights of Native Nations, land owners, community members, and counties and townships within the State of Wisconsin. Instead, the bills are meant to give free reign to an out-of-state company to take our natural resources, including our water.

Instead of encouraging the development of dirty industry, we demand that our representatives work with us to foster growth within the existing businesses of the northland and help us to create new jobs based on the sustainable use of resources..
