Save Whitin Pond in Uxbridge MA

Save Whitin Pond in Uxbridge MA
The Issue
Over the last few years, there has been talk of removing the dam on Whitin Pond in North Uxbridge, Massachusetts due the claim of it being in poor condition.
Every year, we see Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Great Blue Herons, turles, deer, otters, Swallows, Purple Martins, Great Egrets, and other migratory waterfowl enjoying the benefits of Whitin Pond.
According to one member of the Uxbridge Conservation Committee, the removal of the dam will create a "meandering stream and lush meadow." The area surrounding this "meandering stream and lush meadow" will be turned into an odorous marshy bog - the perfect breeding ground for mosquitos, other parasitic insects, and potentially rats.
Last year, I had the opportunity to speak with someone that performed geological drilling. He stated that some residents along the southside of the pond could see structural damage to their homes as their properties settle with the decreased amount of moisture in the ground.
These are a few of the issues that may arise by removing the dam.
We respectfully ask that you support keeping or repairing the dam, instead of it's removal by signing this petition.
