Save Urbandale Water Utility

HF316 was recently introduced in the Iowa Legislature in an effort to create a regional water utility.  If HF316 passed, the water utility assets of Des Moines, Urbandale, and West Des Moines would be seized from their citizens without compensation and given to a newly created entity with little to no representation from the western suburbs.

After fierce opposition and involvement from the citizens of those communities, HF316 has now been amended and is called HF 484.  HF 484  has been amended to remove regionalization and instead focus on dissolving the water utility boards of Des Moines, Urbandale, and West Des Moines.  This is nothing more than a power grab to place water utility assets and monies directly under the control of their respective city councils.  The sole purpose of the water boards of these cities is to focus on water quality, distribution and ensuring that the revenues of the water utility are used strictly for water utility needs.

The Urbandale mayor and city council have been supportive of the Urbandale Water  Board and are not behind HF484.    Previous attempts in Des Moines and West Des Moines to dissolve the water boards have failed due to the voice of their citizens.  Please use your voice now to sign this petition to stop another attempt at disbanding the water utility boards.
