Petitioning Replay Resorts Scott McCormack

Please protect and restore the coastal wetland habitats at Turtle Bay Resort.

Turtle Bay Resort owns 850 acres of coastal wetland in Hawaii. It is home to many threatened and endangered animals and plants: Hawaiian monk seals, green sea turtles, hawksbill turtles, Hawaiian gallinules, stilts, coots, ducks, bats, owls, ohai (sesbania-tomentosa), nene /Hawaiian geese (not seen in the wild on O'ahu since the time of Captain Cook) and two species of endemic bee. Seven Hawaiian monk seal pups have been born here over the past 10 years. With the total population at 1,100, it is one of the most critically endangered mammals on the planet. Replay Resorts will sell two miles of this coastline as 100 lots for luxury houses, a golf club house and a hotel if we do not find a way to put it in conservation. Turtle Bay is a winter home to bristle thighed curlews and many other migratory and sea birds, fish, invertebrates and plants that are endemic (found only in Hawaii). The JCNWR, next door has documented over 120 species of birds! A Conservation Easement for 600+acres has been negotiated. We need to secure another 100. This petition is addressed to the people directly involved with the conservation of this incredible place. Mahalo.
