No legal protection for trees in private complexes. Recently, large banyan, peepal and neem trees of about 50 to 100 years have been chopped off in our apartment complex for no significant reason. We have laws to prevent cruelty to animals like even stray dogs (rightly so) ! Why not for trees? How can the life of a large peepal tree be less valuable than that of a stray dog ? How can someone be cruel to a tree and get away with it. 

A fully grown tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year !  In one year a large tree absorbs more than 24 kgs of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange.

Request Tamil Nadu Govt to enact laws to protect trees in private properties too. Even CMDA shall monitor large trees in residential complexes.
