Why this petition matters

Started by eli bardwell

Nature magazine says over half of baby sea turtles that die have plastic in their stomachs. World Wildlife Fund finds that every year 100,000 marine mammals die as a result of plastic pollution. Being the environmentalist that I am, I decided to do something about it. Anybody can sign this petition, and feel free to start your own petitions to help various animals live healthy lives.

Single-use plastic harms the economy (it is wasteful). Re-using plastic is a good way to help the environment. There are many things you can do to help the sea turtles, including:

- Stop using plastic straws and use metal ones!

- Try to wash out plastic bags and re-use instead of throwing them away after 1 use.

Remember that plastic is durable, which makes it reusable but also makes breaking down a lot slower. That harms the environment. My goal is to get approval from Congress. If I succeed, I will move on to bigger things.

***My name is Eli. I am 12 years old and I live in Iowa. I have been making petitions on my own in school for a year now. I have always been a very environmental person, but this is still my biggest project yet. Next time you think about using a straw or throwing out reusable plastic, remember that one less straw can save a life. My goal at the start is to get schools to stop using single-use plastic, like plastic straws.
