The student Union has been run by the student body for over a century. I see no cogent reason that this should change . I appears to be a power grab by the President. Don't count on any contributions to RPI from me under these circumstances. I already felt that President Jackson was being over-compensated.

The Rensselaer Union should remain under student control and the Institute leadership should focus on restoring the academic reputation and finances of the school.

I am writing as an alum of the Class of '68, '69, & ’72 and a former member of the Executive Board (1970-72). Like Richard Hartt, I believe the leadership opportunities afforded me through the student run Rensselaer Union were great learning experiences that I carried into my career and my many volunteer service experiences. But just as importantly, the fact that the students themselves had the opportunity to run their Student Union increased both pride and participation in RPI as an institution. I am saddened to hear that one of the American colleges where student government was run "of the students, by the students, for the students, shall perish.

Shirley Jackson’s hubris, salary and arrogance HAVE TO BE REIGNED IN! What better way to do than have 7500 alumni threaten to withhold contributions. I myself have RPI in my will.....you better believe I will cut them out if this situation is not settled to the satisfaction of the students, faculty and alumni.

Management has become dictatorial, lost the support of students and faculty and has mimanaged the Institutes finances

It's the STUDENT Union, not theirs, it's that simple, I think.
