Lewes District Council wants to pass plans in it's core strategy on 5th Dec 2012 to allow the Phoenix site to be demolished. After this we only have weeks to protest to the government inspector.
If the plans go ahead Lewes will lose:
1. A wealth of employment through all the businesses on site who will be driven from Lewes.
2. A huge creative community working regionally, nationally and internationally on large scale, high profile commissions such as the Olympics.
3. A community infrastructure currently supporting education and entertainment facilities for children, teenagers and adults.
Without government stepping in, the direction of a huge part of Lewes will be defined by a profit driven developer. We are asking for the government to support these important elements of the community.
