Save the Lower East Side's Sunshine Cinema!

East End Capital & K Property Group, the new owners of a beloved cultural institution, Sunshine Cinemas, want to demolish the theater and replace it with a glass office building designed by Roger Ferris + Partners, and the city has approved their plans. Unless the city steps in or the developers are convinced to change their plans, the historic building will become rubble in March.

The Sunshine Cinemas building is a beautiful and unique example of Dutch architecture. If the owners will not save the theater, the city must designate its facade, which dates to the mid-1800s, a historic landmark.

The building has a long history as a theater, a church, and now a cinema. All around the city, historic architecture, art and culture are being destroyed for luxury condos and offices. We cannot allow another piece of neighborhood culture to be erased without speaking up.

Please sign to show your support for Sunshine Cinema and its contribution to the culture of the Lower East Side, and to demand that its owners and the city preserve its place in the neighborhood.
