Jack Murphy started this petition to Jamestown Town Council

Members of the Jamestown Town Council and Town Administrator,

We are writing to urge you to negotiate a lease with Conanicut Marine Services Inc./Jamestown Newport Ferry to allow them to use the East Ferry dock space and the ADA-accessible boarding float. The ferry is a part of Jamestown's history.

Not only does the Jamestown Newport Ferry provide local employment for 60 people—a good portion of which are Jamestown residents—it provides a valuable service for residents, family and friends:

  • providing accessible transportation for the public to five stops on Narragansett Bay.
  • bringing Newport visitors and residents to our restaurants and shops.
  • getting folks out on the water that may not have otherwise had a way to see the bay up close.
  • teaching and training young adults and future captains on ferry operations
  • taking Jamestown hotel guests, boaters and visitors over to dine, shop and watch the Newport Gull's ball games in Newport.
  • provides low-cost ferry transportation to schools and non-profit groups for educational trips

The Jamestown Town Council should do everything it can to keep the Jamestown Newport Ferry service in place for Jamestown residents and the general public.
