Local softball/baseball friends! We were so excited to see the City of Madison/City of Fitchburg finally put in an outfield fence for the softball diamond at our local Huegel James Town Park. I can’t tell you how many times we have all cringed with concern over the young children and families walking from the soccer field, through the outfield in the middle of a high school aged/club softball game. The soccer field is located behind the softball diamond. Apparently the installation of this fence cost $25,000 of tax payers money and is about to come down for another $10,000 due to a petition that generated 80 signatures. I think we should counter petition to save the fence. Safety for walkers between the fields is more important than saving the green space. If you are going to put in a softball diamond and rent out to high schoolers, then you need to do it safely.
