The communities and neighborhoods along the Los Angeles River in the Northeast of Los Angeles have traditionally had poor access to parks and open space. The Riverside Bridge is an opportunity to immediately transform the bridge span into a park to enjoy recreationally and to connect the Glassell Park and Cypress Park communities to the Greater Los Angeles area. It is also an opportunity for extending the LA River Greenway Trail to Downtown Los Angeles and to Pasadena for bicyclists and pedestrians.
One could hike to Dodger Stadium from Glassell Park. Imagine safely riding a bike from Griffith Park to Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. This can be done! All the LA City Council and Mayor need to do is approve a feasibility study. The time is now to act and save the Figueroa Bridge from demolition. It is not only an important historic landmark over the Los Angeles River; it is a crossroads for a more walkable and healthier City of Los Angeles.
Sign the petition TODAY and tell Mayor Garcetti,Councilmen Cedillo and O'Farrell that you want to Save the Figueroa-Riverside Bridge. Find more information on the LandBRIDGE concept go to this link.
The RAC Design Build LandBRIDGE proposal to save and repurpose the steel span portion of the Riverside-Figueroa Bridge is a valuable example of how we can transform our Los Angeles River experience, providing new public space that reconnects our Communities.
RAC Design Build, in talks with the Bureau of Engineers, have proved that this bridge does NOT need to be removed to complete the ongoing replacement overpass construction and is an outstanding opportunity for future park development.
Please Save the Riverside-Figueroa Bridge and take all the necessary steps to redevelop this historic asset as a public park for the residents and visitors of Los Angeles.
