Thanks, everybody! This afternoon I submitted the signatures and comments that had come in so far to ensure that Georgia State University's contractor, Terracon, had received at least 100 requests from Georgia residents for a public hearing. (That's the minimum threshold in the Georgia Environmental Policy Act Guidelines.) We had 248 signed petition requests as of roughly 3:00pm this afternoon – before today's end of the official public comment period. So, as noted in the email reply I got back, a public hearing will be scheduled!
This is just the first step – but a very important one – in keeping this historic building standing and developing a plan to put it back into good, productive use rather than tearing it down for more asphalt and a few parked cars.
Please continue to share the petition and your comments. I'll keep y'all posted once I find out details on the public hearing and/or GSU's next steps.
Thanks again, and have a great history-saving weekend!
