Save the historic Old Jail and Sheriff's Residence:
We the undersigned residents, voters, and taxpayers of Cole County ask the Cole County Commission to preserve the Historic Cole County Jail and Sherriff’s Residence. Once a historic building is destroyed it is gone forever. The Historic Cole County Jail and Sheriff's Residence has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972 and has been designated as a historic landmark building in Jefferson City since 2010. The building was built as a PWA Depression Era Project and is one of a very few jails with a sheriff’s resident still in existence. The Cole County Commission will take a vote on the outcome of this historic building on April 16, 2014. These historic buildings are a significant part of the rich history and character of our great city and should be saved for future generations to enjoy.
