Why this petition matters

A symbol of HOPE, an iron star with lights strung around its five points powered by solar panels sits upon High Mountain. The star was originally a project by local Boy Scouts in the 1950s and became a much needed sign of HOPE during COVID in 2020.

On March 23, 2022 the Nature Conservancy ordered the star taken down within seven days due to negatively impacting the habitat for several rare and imperiled plants and presenting a safety hazard for anyone who might try to climb the star. The High Mountain preserve is co-owned by the township of Wayne, the state and The Nature Conservancy. Mayor George has stated he received permission from Wayne officials, the state's Green Acres program, and The Nature Conservancy to erect the star in 2020. Wayne Mayor Christopher Vergano, a majority owner of High Mountain Preserve, has expressed support for Mayor George and North Haledon.

This petition is to support saving the Star of Hope on High Mountain. Please sign with your support.

On May 9, 2022, there will be an important meeting at Eastern Christian High School on Oakwood Ave regarding the Star on High Mountain. Please attend if you are interested in saving the Star of Hope on High Mountain. This meeting is for North Haledon residents and all surrounding municipalities.

THANK YOU!
