I've used these lanes, and they made a huge difference. I felt so much safer onthe road. And for the particular section I was cycling down, there was no alternative.

We need to adopt more equitable and safer road infrastructure to make Melbourne more sustainable. If we are serious about providing more transport options for people and maintaining our ‘most liveable city’ status then safe cycling needs to be a significant part of this.

When I’m on my bike rather than in my car I am not contributing to congestion or air pollution so ultimately more bike riding makes things more convenient and healthier for all of us.

I’m looking forward to the day when safe, shared routes are the norm and cars and bikes can happily co-exist.

Let’s plan and develop with vision for the long-term benefit of all and not just bow to lowest common denominator short-term solutions.

I use this every day in both directions while commuting to work. It’s an awesome addition in a number of sections but could be potentially designed better with traffic furniture being removed and lane sizes being slightly reduced. This would allow the easing of traffic and safety of riders to continue.

Ripping up bike lanes is bad planning, we have to stop this malpractice.

Civilised societies put people before cars. I use these new pop-up lanes. Before I rode on the footpath and that is against the law for people over 13 years of age! To put it in perspective, Heidelberg road is two lanes each way before and after the pop up lanes, so it's not as if the people who drive cars are getting anywhere slower.

All the evidence points to more cyclists on the road making it safer for riders, and that cycling improves physical and mental health, reduces congestion, and causes less damage to both roads and the environment.

It’s time to move forward and encourage cycling as a form of transport for everyone, everywhere.
