Save The Commons- Stop Privatizing Public Land!

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

Why are we giving away the heart of downtown Ithaca to big developers when we could be providing:

* Affordable and inclusive housing and affordable commercial spaces.

* Local, living wage jobs.

* Sustainable development (adhering to the new Green Building Policy).

* More public space around the Commons, not less

Our efforts so far, have extended the Request For Proposals (RFP) with the Ithaca Urban Renewal Agency (IURA) for another 90 days. Serious developers will have until May 31, 2018 to submit their qualifications and the remaining 60 days to submit their proposals.

Now is the time to make demands. Do you want to see an inclusionary project with a minimum of 100% truly affordable units for the lowest earners in our community? Do you want some or all of the potential commercial spaces to be rented affordably with the stipulation employers will pay a living wage? Do you want to see a zero-carbon footprint for the design? Do you want some of the city land to be preserved as public space and actually grow the Commons. Do you want to ensure Cinemapolis can stay where it is? Our imaginations are the limit!

The Commons was built for everyone! As the City population grows, it is time to Grow the Commons.
