Save the Claremont Recreation Club from closure

Save the Claremont Recreation Club from closure
Why this petition matters
The Claremont Recreation Club is in its 120th year. It has been part of the lives of generations who have lived, worked and played in the Western suburbs since 1903. A termination of lease notice was served after the Council delegated authority to manage the lease back to the Town of Claremont (TOC), 'in the best interests of the Town'. This notice is out of step with the aims and values of TOC, 'the best interests of TOC' and the local community.
As things stand, everyone loses. The Claremont community will lose a recreational resource and the whole community will pay through rates for maintenance of an inaccessible building and grounds that will quickly become derelict.
Club members, their friends, the various groups that hire the space for both recreation and business and the schools that regularly use the CRC will also be losers.
The TOC will also be a big loser - they will have to find funds and human resources to maintain the building and grounds and will have to manage the loss of community confidence in their ability to fairly support a community organisation.
