Ledard Road Residents started this petition to The Landlord

This beautiful cherry tree is a landmark near Battlefield Primary School, that is planned to be unnecessarily cut down week beginning 9th September 2019 unless we can convince the landlord to save it. We need local residents to show their support, and how valuable this tree is to the community, especially in this time of climate change crisis.

The full story... On Wednesday 4th September, a Battlefield resident came across some tree surgeons trying to cut down a beautiful 80 years old blossom tree; a decision was already made by the owner to cut down the tree rather than just trimming it down to save on long term costs. This tree, with such distinctive characteristics, is loved by the local neighbourhood and positioned in front of the local primary school. Parents have been passing this tree to drop off / collect their children from / to school for generations.

The Battlefield resident took to the local community Facebook group where many people echoed their dismay at the situation at hand. Thankfully, another Battlefield resident knew the tree surgeons and asked them to stop: and they did!

The wonderful tree surgeons realised the extent of the situation, instead of cutting down the tree they trimmed it according to current health and safety regulations; the tree has now been well pruned at a manageable size, causing no obstruction to the upper flat windows, satisfying the factors recommendations and not requiring further work for many years.

Since the tree surgeons would not get paid for not completing the original job (i.e. completely cutting the tree down), a GoFundMe page was set-up. This means that the tree surgeons will now fully be reimbursed for their cost; this shows the level of interest and support, which I hope will demonstrate the wider impact of the decision on our community.

Unfortunately a new company is being dispatched to finish the job next week, unless we can convince them otherwise.

This petition is not for donations, it has only been set-up to bring the community together, there is no need to cut down such an iconic tree since the local residents have already taken all the necessary actions, hence trying to convince the landlord to let the tree living in peace for many more years.

Please help!
