The commissioner of Agriculture, Carlos Robles, announced last week the cancellation of the 40 yr event known as the Agriculture Food Fair for February 2018.
He gave several reasons. Some include no internet, damaged buildings and farmers not being able to provide crops in time due to hurricane Maria.
A grass roots efforts has started with the intent of making sure the 40 year running streak is not interrupted. This event serves as a major economic event for many local small farmers and vendors. Upwards of 60,000 people come to this 3 day event for many different reasons such as Food, History, Culture, Information, to network, listen to the music and have fun to name a few. Many farmers and pretty much all vendors were left out the decision to cancel this unmatched historical event. Members of the grass roots and the community believe a scaled down event is more then feasible. After all 87 plus percent of the Fair takes place outdoors. The grounds natural are intact.
With the amount of volunteers and folks willing and ready to pitch in. There is absolutely no valid reason to outright cancel the event.
There are folks on the ground meeting and preparing to offer assistance to the commissioner. You can help by signing this petition urging the commissioner to reconsider. Please forward this to everyone. Friends Family Coworkers.
