Let Virginia Raggi's administration know that there is an International community that knows it is important for the future of food to support small scale farmers practicing sustainable agriculture and the preservation of biodiversity AND that they need to take immediate action in making the process for the new contract of the market ... like a year ago.. pfft!
Rome's administration has actively disrupted the direct sale of the local small scale farmer's produce and artisan products at the Campagna Amica market at Circus Maximus by not acting. The administration is determined that the historical market site that the Campagna Amica farmers have used for nearly 10 years is to remain empty because the adminstration has neglected to process a new contract in a timely fashion and before Campagna Amica's contract ended January 31st, 2016.
The Campagna Amica site at Circus Maximus has become known to the citizens of Rome and to tourist activities as a place to have direct access to farmers and is a demonstratable model for communities to support sustainable farming practices and the preservation of biodiversity. It is a successful project for the promotion of food security... seems like something to pay attention to... but apparently not for the administration of Virginia Raggi. The Campagna Amica branding is a 3rd party guarantee that takes the burden off of producers and consumers.
This project is improving the relationship between small scale cultivators and consumers, positively impacting the health of the community and the environment, supporting educational programs to protect our future food security and selling the food of the survivors of the earthquakes in Lazio, yet the current administration is letting the public market site remain empty because they have neglected to take proper and timely action in processing a new contract. #ilmercatononsitocca
