Save St Kilda from Disastrous High-Rise Development
This petition had 492 supporters
VCAT have recently approved a 26-storey high-rise development at 8 Punt Road, St Kilda junction. The proposed building will have the largest LED billboard in the Southern hemisphere stuck onto the façade.
The City of Port Philip and St Kilda residents do not want this to happen.
Changes to the Junction should embrace the St Kilda lifestyle, not turn it into a soul-less, urban wasteland overshadowed by high-rise, causing more traffic congestion, wind and parking problems.
After consultation over the past 2 years with local residents, the City of Port Phillip has developed the St Kilda Road South Strategic Planning Framework, which provides amongst other urban design considerations the limitation of the height of new buildings to 10 storeys.
The Planning Minister has been requested to put interim controls in place (via amendment C121 which is an interim to Amendment C122 see http://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au/amendment-c122.htm for details) BUT to date he has refused, which has resulted in disastrous high-rise buildings being approved. He has approved interim controls for other locations, so why not St Kilda?
It’s not too late to save St Kilda!
1. We need interim controls in place now!! We support City of Port Phillip pursuing its request to the Minister for Planning to introduce immediately interim Amendment C121.
2. We support City of Port Phillip challenging the 8 Punt Road, St Kilda Junction VCAT decision in the Supreme Court.
