Save SOS Thunder Bay

This petition had 2,201 supporters

Shelter House has been forced to shutter its Street Outreach Services (SOS) due to a funding shortfall, and we need your help to save the program.

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) has joined forces with Shelter House to launch a campaign to ask the provincial government to provide stable funding to Shelter House, so that it can run SOS 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

Right now, the program only has the funding to run through the winter, 12 hours a day. While the winter is the most critical time to be out on the streets and helping people in need, people need help every day, not only when it’s cold outside.
The program has been successful in providing support to vulnerable people while reducing emergency contact with first responders.

SOS staff liaise with police and other emergency services, connecting individuals to partner agencies. SOS has made Thunder Bay a safer place for everyone, and has also helped some of the city’s most vulnerable people find comfort, safety, and support when they have nowhere else to turn.

Please help us show Minister Jaczek that the whole community of Thunder Bay supports the request for increased, stable funding from the Ministry of Community and Social Services. Please sign our open letter.

Because everyone deserves a helping hand when they need it.

Thank you for your support!
