A Lynn tradition, the Shoe City Classic is a tournament that has brought basketball fans of all ages together in the city for decades, this year marking the game's 30th anniversary.

On Saturday, August 6th 2022, the city officials of Lynn made a decision to shut down the Shoe City Classic basketball tournament due to an isolated incident that took place on the night prior between a group of men. The incident resulted in the group of men fighting and using gunfire leaving families, players and spectators running for cover. An arrest was made on August 6, 2022 decreasing the communities risk. 

The decrease of Violence is a fight that as a community, we continue to raise awareness about. To cancel a yearly tradition or modifying the times that games can be played does not solve the real issues.

As the Director of Shoe City Classic, I am asking for your support in taken a stance by signing this petition that you support the ongoing future of Shoe City Classic and would like to see a comeback of the 31st Anniversary take place in Marian Gardens.
