Why this petition matters

Started by Ashleigh Culshaw

As most of us have heard Ramsey Bakery is set to shut it's doors on the 30th April 2022 after 50 years of being in trade. This is due to the increased cost of living and raw materials that they need in order to run efficiently.

This is such sad news for our island and for many local businesses that rely on their production line to run their own local business and are now going to have to find either alternative employment or a different supplier which as we all know can be very difficult and UK imported bread is not great at the best of times, also some people cant have UK branded breads due to health issues (myself included)

this petition is to request signatures to agree to get the isle of man government to offer some sort of financial funding to the Bakery so that they can continue to produce the products that we know and love

an email has already been sent to the Chief minister of the isle of man Sir Alfred Cannan, but i along with many others would not like to see this loss to our island espcially with TT coming up.

The email i sent is the following text below

Dear Mr. Cannan

I hope you are well

As you may have heard Ramsey Bakery have had to close their doors due to not being able to afford adequate and affordable resources due to the rising costs of resources.

I am writing to request on behalf of the Isle of Man population that the Isle of Man government provides Ramsey Bakery with some sort of financial funding for their continuation of the business. This would be to help them get the necessary resources and ingredients that they need to run efficiently after all the islands motto is to support local businesses where you can, and this business closing that a lot of people rely on will have an impact on other local businesses and this will ultimately impact the isle of man farming community.

Our island relies so heavily on the production of their products for local businesses and if so many local businesses shut down that means that this will be less income for the island, the island not being self-sufficient, and means that you will be paying out more in benefits due to such high unemployment.

The reason I feel so passionately about this is that Ramsey Bakery Bread is the only bread that I and my daughter can have that doesn't impact our health and this is the reason for a lot of other people on the island as well, also I am passionate about the local farming industry as I have relatives that are farmers, and our farmers that are part of this wonderful community that provides the raw materials for the production of goods are going to suffer this would be such a shame if this industry was to cease.

I hope you can look into this matter and I will be creating a petition for the Isle of Man government to contribute to financial funding to help this much-needed local business carry on with production.

Kind Regards

Ashleigh Culshaw
