The Montreal House has been a part of Peterborough since the 1850’s.

A developer that now owns the property at King and Aylmer is planning an 8-story apartment building.

This petition is NOT meant to stop the construction of the new structure but only to ask the developer and city council, to consider the 170 years of heritage the building has provided Peterborough. Much like new YMCA building, by incorporating the front of the Montreal House into the new 8-story apartment building we can hang on to a piece of our city’s history.

From first being the place for French Canadian Lumbermen to congregate after a long day in the Scott’s Plains Forest. To becoming a downtown hot spot for live local music, everyone in Peterborough has a story about the Montreal House.
