I'm sick of our venues closing. Entertainment is a vital part of our culture.

I passionately believe in the vital importance of small, atmospheric venues that make a unique contribution to our city’s life - especially in this case the Cornmarket that is dying a slow death especially at night.

One of the only two good clubs in Oxford, Cellar forms an essential part of the music and nightlife scene in the city. It provides a stepping stone for many bands and DJs, contributing to Oxford’s rich cultural environment, (where I believe such forms of expression are already underrepresented) and provides a meanigful space for party and celebration to both Oxford locals and students. It would be tragic to destroy this characteristic space and all the emotional attachments to it and replace it with another generic retail space (probably for the sake of profit), of which there are already plenty on Cornmarket Street and in the Westfield Centre.

I have just moved to Oxford from London and the Cellar is already my favourite venue. Oxford counts very few (good) music venues that can cater for the thousands of students who live here. Don't take it away from us!

You can allow profiteering when charities need help!
