We need your help. And it’s urgent. We at ‘Save Our Voices Now’ (Peter Caulfield and Alice Sockett),  are deeply concerned about the ownership of our voices. 

Not only as actors and voiceover artists, where by our careers and livelihoods hang in the balance, but for every UK citizen! Our personal security is at risk due to the current lack of enforceable copyright laws over our voices in the UK.

We at 'Save Our Voices Now' believe that each single person should have clear and enforceable copyright ownership of their own voice.

In Denmark, the government has already taken legislative action to address this critical issue. The United States is following suit with upcoming legislation to protect its citizens. Meanwhile, the UK remains silent, leaving its citizens unprotected against unauthorized use of their voices.

The lack of protection not only jeopardises our creative professions but also exposes individuals to potential misuse of their voices, either through unauthorised commercial exploitation or deceptive impersonation, leading to far-reaching consequences for privacy and identity security. With advancements in digital technology, the ability to replicate and manipulate voices through AI systems is becoming alarmingly sophisticated. Without proper legislative safeguards, any individual's voice can be misused, leading to irreversible personal and financial damage.  

We will be sending our concerns in an open letter addressed to the UK Government, the actors’ union Equity, and major industry players like Amazon/Audible. Our aim is to pressure these entities to take immediate action in helping to facilitate and implement laws that ensure everyone in the UK is safe in the knowledge that they own their own voice!

Our voices are not just merely sounds; they are extensions of our identities and deserve the utmost protection. By signing this petition, you are joining a crucial step in supporting our cause. One voice can be lost, but together, our voices will be heard.
