Save our Special Needs Allocation!

Save our Special Needs Allocation!
Why this petition matters
Seventh Street Junior School currently has a full time Special Needs Assistant that services the specific and unique needs of their students. Based on these student needs, this has been a valuable resource at the school. Apparently, there was an independent study conducted which identified that only 10% of the schools’ needs are special education. Based on conversations with some parents, feedback from some members of the teaching staff, and an understanding of happenings in the classroom from our children, we feel this percentage doesn’t truly reflect the needs at Seventh Street. As concerned parents, guardians and members of the school community, we are respectfully requesting another audit take place and the findings be discussed with all stakeholders before any staffing or resourcing decisions are made. A recent decision to reduce the special needs assistant role at Seventh Street to 0.5 come January 6, 2020 is of a serious concern to the safety and well-being of our current and future students, and our school community. We feel having 0.5 be replaced with an educational assistant does not meet the needs of the school.
We the undersigned request another audit to be conducted, and discussing these findings with the parents, guardians, and school community before making any decisions about staffing and resourcing at the school.
